National Winners

One hundred and forty-eight students from 40 High Schools and Colleges Programs in Illinois were part of a delegation of 231 individuals that participated as competitors, advisors, and voting delegates in Kansas City, Missouri on June 20-24, 2011, at the 47th National Leadership and Skills Conference sponsored by SkillsUSA. Competitions were held in 97 occupational and leadership skill areas.

SkillsUSA Illinois is proud to announce that 27 students won medals at this year's SkillsUSA Championships. Twenty-one were college students and six were high school students. The total number of students receiving gold medals was sixteen while seven students received silver and four students received bronze.

In addition to the medal winners eight students placed 4th, nine students placed 5th and two students placed 6th. In all, twenty-one students placed in the top six places while another thirty-one placed seventh through tenth place. Forty four SkillsUSA Illinois students received "Skill Point" certificates which represent a proficiency assessment of the competency areas tested for each contest. The same industry leaders who defined the competencies for the Championships determined a "cut score" that indicates excellence for students entering technical fields.
